“My husband and I had a natural birth plan. We didn’t plan on me being in labor for 4 days with contractions 5 minutes apart and no progress. Prodromal labor is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. My daughter was sunny side up, so I experienced back labor. I lived in the bath tub for those 4 days. I didn’t sleep. The contractions would get stronger each night when I went to bed. I finally broke. My husband took me to the hospital and I told them I just wanted to sleep. I knew it meant medication. Surprisingly, as a pharmacy technician I hate medication especially while pregnant. The sedative led to the pitocin which led to being stuck in bed. Everything I knew I shouldn’t do to avoid a c-section was happening. They tried to turn her inside of me once I got to 9 1/2 centimeters. They couldn’t. Her heart rate dipped too low and now we were having an emergency c-section. Of course, I’m glad she and I are both healthy. It was a slippery slope of everything I knew not to do. I regret parts of it. I know it can’t change anything so I try not to dwell on it. I am determined to try for a VBAC with our next child to be able to experience what I missed with Remy.”
